Garden Bed

This is the first time I am growing broccoli and I wasn't sure when to harvest it. I learned that the heads start separating/flowering when they get too much sun or I don't harvest them soon enough. I think I planted them too late.

The cauliflower is not growing as fast as the broccoli.

I started a new garden bed. I am going to try and grow watermelon and cantaloupe vertically.

The tomato plants are growing good. I am trying a different staking technique. Instead of staking each plant I put up two poles on the side and wrapped some clothes line around to support the plants from falling forward or back. I have some chicken wire boxes on top of the yellow squash and zucchini in case the squirrel decides to attack again. So far, the squirrel repellent has been working.

April Garden Bed

The snap peas are doing great, more than I can eat.

The cauliflower is growing good and the eggplants are still getting started.

The chives are growing and the bell peppers too.

In the background, you can see that I built another garden box. I am going to plant raspberries and blackberries in it.

Attacked my garden

Something attacked my garden during the night or early morning. It even attacked the trees in my yard. I suspect it is a squirrel that has setup a next in one of our trees. I immediately ordered some squirrel repellent to sprinkle around the perimeter of my garden. The squirrel has already had babies so I will leave it alone until the the babies are grown up.

March Garden Status

The garden is doing good. The crop I planted late january (radishes, onions, carrots, swiss chard, cauliflower, red cabage, loose leaf lettuce, parsely, and cilantro) are hanging in there.

Building a drip system for the garden

Once I had finished building the garden beds and added the soil, I ran a drip system to all the garden beds. I used 1/4 in tubing in each plot to hold the dripper and 5/8 tubing was used to run the distance between each plot. I bought adapters that went onto my existing sprinkler system. These adapters connect to the sprinkler heads. The adapter then allows a 5/8 tubing to be connected to it. The last picture shows the drip system tubing a little better.
In addition to adding a drip system to water the plants, I put landscape fabric down in the walk ways and then covered them with wood chips and stepping stones. I read that people also put landscape fabric down in the garden beds but I didn't do that this time.
You can see that some of the plants have started to sprout. In this top picture, I had planted yellow squash and zucchini in the rectangle garden box. In the box on the bottom left of the top picture, I planted carrots, green onions and basil. On the opposite side of that box I planted yellow bell peppers, red bell peppers and green bell peppers. I also planted some loose leaf lettuce.

I planted snap peas and green peas along the side of the shed. In the two square plots below, I planted red cabage, broccoli, cauliflower, swiss chard (never tried it), japanese eggplant and some habbanero plants. In the two square boxes along the shed I planted one roma tomato and in the other I planted jalapeno, sweet pepper and serrano peppers.

Building a Square Foot Garden

I am still working on the garden as you can tell. I am trying to make use of every inch of space. I using the square foot garden method and have layed out strings across the garden bed to create the squares. I have began planting in the garden beds that are ready.

March Garden Bed

The garden is doing great. In the top picture you can see the big red cabbage leaves some mixed greens, cilantro and carrots.

Still maximizing my use of space, I added another rectangular garden box. You can see the 5/8 drip system tubbing running to the new box.
The sugar snap peas and the green peas are climbing up the trellis along the shed.
